Uncorked: Wine for Valentine's Day

Do you believe in love at first sight? With over 50 vintages under his belt, Marcel Guigal believes that the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Rosé (SRP $15) is a “vintage of a lifetime.”
Contrary to belief, rosé isn’t just a summer wine and the pink color is fitting for Valentine’s Day. This structured, dry rosé with a long finish and intriguing minerality, and bursting with red fruits, makes a perfect match for dark chocolates with berry filling to complement the notes of raspberry and red currants without getting too sweet.

2014 Côtes du Rhône Blanc’s floral and aromatic notes of white flowers, apricot, acacia and white peach, complex structure, and medium body, make this a well-rounded wine with elegance, strength and balance (SRP $15).

Cozy up by the fireplace with a glass of 2012 Côtes du Rhône Rouge. One of the world’s best value wines (SRP $15), Guigal’s Côtes du Rhône Rouge is a southern Rhône wine made with a distinctly northern Rhône approach. Guigal winemaker forgoes the usual Grenache-heavy blend in favor of the bold Syrah as the main varietal. Blended from cuvees from over 40 top growers, the wine is aromatically intense and a full bodied, with notes of red berries and spices, perfect for sipping while watching a flick, and pairing with a hearty steak, or simply with a plate of charcuterie to share. And if you really want to impress your date, the 2012 Crozes-Hermitage Rouge (SRP $25) is a bigger Syrah that shows off Northern Rhone’s signature varietal with spicy and persistent intensity of flavor.
