Chefs Behind Bars for a Cause

Despite the sweltering summer heat, DC socialites, foodies, and cocktail aficionados flocked to the Liaison Hotel rooftop for the Chef's Behind Bars event to support No Kid Hungry.

The beautiful rooftop overlooking Capitol Hill reminded me of something I would see in Los Angeles. Cabanas, and outdoor sofas and lounge chairs surrounded the sparkling pool that I could only dream of enjoying another day...

Cocktails were flowing, but the long lines of guests waiting definitely kept the chef's busy.  Rappahanock River Oysters provided fresh oysters with accompaniments while Sona Creamery, one of the newest creameries in DC, and Art & Soul, provided some other delicious bites.

8 of DC's hottest chefs competed in a cocktail competition to raise money for charity.  The line up included Matt Hill from Lyon Hall and Liberty Tavern, Jesse Miller from Bar Bilar, Nick Stefanelli from Bibiana, Dimitri Moshovitis from Cava Mezze, Jonah Kim from Pabu, Amy Brandwein from Alba Osteria, Spike Mendelsohn from Bernaise, Good Stuff Eatery, and We, The Pizza, along with host chef Wes Morton from Art & Soul.

I thought all the cocktails were delicious and refreshing, but ultimately it was up to DC's favorite bartenders Gina Chersevani, Derek Brown, and Duane Sylvestre along with Misse Frederick from Eater DC and Laura Hayes from Thrillist to pick the winner.

No party is complete without music.  DJ Neekola provided guests with the perfect mix of upbeat hits while they mingled and sipped. This was the ultimate happy hour and a great way to raise money for a good cause.
